Want a place to relax, unwind and forget your troubles? In our region, unspoilt, clean beaches are in abundance. In fact, our region boasts almost a 100km stretch of stinger-free coastline providing numerous places to slow down and enjoy life with relatively calm surf conditions. Many of our beaches are also patrolled by lifesavers during the season. Most offer various accommodation options and other facilities. Bundaberg itself is only 15km away from the nearest beach at Bargara. Between each of the beaches are volcanic rocks which are remnants of a small cinder cone volcano called "The Hummock" which you can drive right to the top of. It's the highest point in Bundaberg and makes a great vantage point - you can see the city, the coast and the country. These volcanic rocks provide good fishing and are also fantastic dive and snorkel locations as they are an ideal base for coral and marine growth. A recent study of beaches throughout Australia concluded the region's beaches are amongst the most pristine in the nation…of course, we already knew that!
