Franco Zeffirelli’s unrivalled production returns with the renowned Russian soprano Anna Netrebko making her long-awaited Met role debut as the legendary cold-hearted Princess Turandot.

Public health notice: The Queensland Government requires all patrons of theatres, cinemas and live music venues to be vaccinated from 17 December 2021. Any unvaccinated patrons who book tickets after these restrictions were put in place and are subsequently denied access to the venue will not be eligible to receive a refund. Refunds will be made available to patrons who booked prior to the announcement of these restrictions.

Prince Calaf falls in love with the Princess Turandot but in order to obtain permission to marry her, a suitor must solve three riddles. Any single wrong answer will result in the suitor's execution. Calaf passes the test, but Turandot refuses to marry him. He offers her a way out: if she is able to guess his name before dawn the next day, he will accept death.

Tenor Yonghoon Lee, reprising his 2015 and 2019 Opera Australia role as Calaf, the bold Prince determined to win Turandot’s love, sings Nessun dorma, Let no one sleep, one of the best-known tenor arias in all opera.

International star in the making, American soprano Michelle Bradley is the devoted servant Liù and Ferruccio Furlanetto plays the blind king Timur.

Charismatic Italian Marco Armiliato, who has led more than 450 performances at the Met since his 1998 debut, conducts Puccini’s stirring score.

Franco Zeffirelli designed and directed his new production of Turandot in March 1987 – with Eva Marton in the title role opposite Plácido Domingo as Calàf and with Maestro James Levine on the podium. In the 34 Met seasons since, this visually stunning production has been revived 17 times.

Turandot is sung in Italian with English subtitles.

A screening of the broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera 2021-22 Season in New York.

Duration 3 hours 25 minutes, including 2 intervals.
