It's 1953 and the annual veteran car run from London to Brighton, organized by the Royal Automobile Club, is under way. Two old chums, Alan McKim (John Gregson) drives his beloved 1904 automobile, named Genevieve, while Ambrose Claverhouse (Kenneth More) takes his vintage Spyker car, decide to have a "friendly" wager on who will be the first back to London. They aren't letting their friendship stand in the way of trying to outdo and the trek soon turns fiercely competitive and one up each other all the way there and back, each driver devising clever ways to sabotage the other in hopes of winning the race. Their long suffering female companions Wendy (Dinah Sheridan) and Rosalind Peters (Kay Kendall) - come along for the wild ride and often wonder just what's gotten into the men's heads over this car race. Will the relationships survive and will they make it back to London?

This film won a BAFTA and a Golden Globe but it became famous for something quite different. It started the historic car movement. Before Genevieve old cars were old metal. After Genevieve car clubs sprang up everywhere and saved the historic treasures.

Our gala includes a free exhibition of 100-year-old vehicles outside the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre - some would be scrap metal now without Genevieve. This is a rare chance to see this captivating cult film on the big screen. Proceeds from ticket sales go to the Bundaberg Health Services Foundation.
