Turtles

Welcome to turtle HQ!

If you love these flippered friends, you can’t get a better destination than the town the turtles call home.

Swim with them all year in our warm coral lagoons, and be sure to be here between November and March when the shorelines of the mainland and the coral cays turn into a turtle runway. Watch mumma turtles waddle up the sand to nest and the little ones sprint back to the ocean like they’re late for something.

Mon Repos Turtle

Encounter

Lock in a Mon Repos Nightly Turtle Encounter for the full experience. It is the only ranger-guided turtle show on the East Coast, and the rookery here is the biggest in the South Pacific for the endangered loggerhead turtle. You get the stories, the science and the “holy heck that is cute” all in one night.

Take your turtle obsession to the next level with a day trip on the Southern Great Barrier Reef

Fly out to Lady Elliot Island or cruise to Lady Musgrave Island and spend the day snorkelling with curious reef locals who are absolutely unbothered by your presence. Warm clear water, bright coral, trained marine biologists showing you all the good bits and turtles who glide past like they own the place. Bring the underwater camera because a turtle selfie is a Bundy rite of passage.
