Export Marketing Development Grant Funding (EMDG)
SGBR have been successful in obtaining the Export Marketing Development Grant funds for FY 24 and 25. Substantially less than the 2 previous years, so we will be relying on collaboration and contribution from our industry to maintain the in-market presence we have had in the past 2 years.

After meeting Nicolas at Marketplace EU/UK Nicolas is keen to learn more about the Southern Great Barrier Reef and after all the destinations he met with, he has chosen the Southern Great Barrier Reef as the destination to spend the time for his family holiday in January!

ATE Pathways Program
The Queensland Regional Tourism Network has secured funding for an extension of the Trade Mentoring Program offering those already in trade the opportunity for extended support as well as entry level mentoring to new operators.
Most of you would have seen an email about the program, if you missed it and want further support in Trade Development please email loni.hammond@bundabergregion.org.

SGBR In-Market Campaigns
With EMDG funding the SGBR RTOs put together destination content for in-market campaigns with Travel Essence Germany and Audley Travel UK. When we see the roll out of the campaigns in-market we will share them with you.
Bonza Holidays
RTO’s across Australia were invited to an information session on the launch of ‘Bonza Holidays’.
The first phase of Bonza Holidays includes fully packaged flights and accommodation with optional travel insurance. A second phase will launch next year and include car hire, activities, attractions, and tours in what will be a further boost to the domestic tourism market.

UPCOMING EVENTS & MISSIONS
Queensland is Calling Europe & UK December 2023
Queensland is Calling – UK and Europe Roadshow from 3 – 8 December. This event provides a platform for Queensland destinations and products to engage and train influential UK and European Product Managers, wholesaler staff and retail agents (including Aussie Specialists). A total of six tailored events will be held with the aim to reach approximately 150 agents and product managers.
SGBR will be sending Eloise Chaffers to represent the SGBR destination at this event

SGBR Domestic Trade Mission February
As TEQ are hosting an Inbound Event in Sydney that will attract ITOs from around Australia we are planning to put together a Domestic Agent event in Brisbane in mid-February. We estimate the cost’s per operator to be $750 depending on how many operators participate across the SGBR.
As this event would need at least 8 operators to attend, we are seeking Expressions of Interest now.

Mark your calendars, SGBR will be heading to Sydney for an Inbound Queensland Showcase event on 11 & 12th of March. When more information is available, we will share with you.

ATE 2024 May 2024
The Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) will return to Melbourne/Narrm next year for the first time since 2015, with Australia’s largest annual tourism trade event to be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) from Sunday, 19 May 2024 to Thursday, 23 May 2024
We hope to have a competitive SGBR representation for next year!

Bundaberg Tourism makes finalist in the National Travel Industry Association’s (NITA) Most Popular Tourism Office Award
Bundaberg Tourism joins a prestigious list of nominees including national tourism organisations including Destination Canada, Japan National Tourism Organization, Qatar Tourism, Singapore Tourism Board, Switzerland Tourism and Tourism New Zealand | Manaakitanga Aotearoa.
The Awards are run annually by the Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA) and are esteemed throughout the travel industry.
The nomination comes after years of hard work by Bundaberg Tourism focussed on sustaining and growing strong relationships with travel trade and key distribution partners across the globe to ensure that Bundaberg and the Southern Great Barrier Reef remains top of mind domestically and internationally despite the challenges of COVID.
The finalist recognition comes after voting was closed on the 18 September. Thank you to anyone who took the time to vote for us!

SGBR at Tourism Australia’s G’day Australia Event in Cairns
Heron Island, Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort, Lady Musgrave Experience and Loni representing Southern Great Barrier Reef attended this annual Aussie Specialist agent event held in Cairns 9-12 October 2023. 112 Appointments with over 220 front line agents were held across the 4 days.
We also hosted 12 agents from around the world over 4 nights across the Southern Great Barrier Reef destination in a POST G’day Australia Famil

SGBR Nominated for ATEC Partner of the Year
Introduced for the first time this year, the Partner of the Year award recognises excellence in destination marketing and ‘hunting in packs’. Eligible entrants include state tourism organisations, regional tourism organisations, touring routes, local tourism organisations or local government areas. Interested parties self-nominate. The winner is selected via secret ballot of the ATEC membership and is announced at Meeting Place.
