A day out on the Hummock Farm Tour with Bundy Food Tours

The Hummock Farms Tour is a great way to familiarise yourself with the diversity of farms and culinary delights east of Bundaberg toward Bargara. You will travel in air-conditioned comfort through the stunning patchwork of farms to the blue coastal waters of the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Visit the farms that surround the Hummock growing a range of vegetables, fruit, nuts and sugar cane. This behind the scenes tour is extremely informative with visits to several different farms and a picnic along the way prepared by Water St Kitchen, who pride themselves in using produce direct from the farmers. Sample fresh produce, collect culinary tips from your host Suzie Clarke, and find out about the local food hotspots. Suzie has 30 years' experience in food, both cooking and teaching cookery. Her passion for fresh produce has created opportunities for food producers to engage with consumers, both locals and visitors.

This tour can vary according to the seasons. Bundaberg farmers produce 80% of Australia's sweet potatoes. As they grow all year around we are always able to visit Windhum Farms packing shed. Linda and Darren Zunker, together with son Ethan and their team welcome our tours and can't wait to show you around and share their watermelons with you in the summer months. These farmers and food producers are passionate and generous with their time to share their stories. Anthony Rehbein is no exception, a fourth generation farmer who together with his wife Kate are taking the culinary world by storm with their new range of Bunda Ginga products, along with producing a large range of quality small crops.

Throughout the strawberry season from June to October, Tina and Bruce MacPherson host morning tea on their beautiful farm at Tinaberries. Tina will demystify the world of growing the most beautiful Camarosa strawberries during the season and at other times to show off their passionfruit vines which grow all year round and have fruit for 11 months. Robertson Flower Farm is well known in the region for their magnificent sunflowers, gladiolas, oriental lilies and Asiatic lilies. We are so fortunate that Adam and Trish allow us into their wonderful world of flowers.

The tour visits Macadamias Australia at Alloway depending on Janelle Gerry's availability as she loves to share her family farming story. As Suzie is often meeting with different farmers new farms may pop up from time to time and be included in a tour. Bruce and Carol's Pickle Patch Dragon Fruit Farm has been a favourite and will be included in the summer months, Surfie Chicks Bargara free range eggs is a new farm on the program. Bargara Meats is another great place for us to visit as they have a range of local ingredients in addition to their awesome meat, poultry and dairy products. There really is a lot to see in a morning tour around Bundaberg.

There are opportunities to sample produce and to buy some products. However, it is not the purpose of the tour to sell products. You may like to bring along some change in case you see something you would like to buy. We look forward to seeing you on Bundy Food Tours.
