DESTINATION PR

In this two-part module, you will learn about some of our key destination PR activities including:
1. PR & Publicity - Pitching destination story ideas to targeted media and influencers; and
2. Media Famils - Hosting media and operating familiarisations conducted in the Bundaberg Region in partnership with tourism partners, Tourism & Events Queensland and Tourism Australia.

Did you know that Bundaberg Tourism generates millions of dollars of editorial for the region each year? Chances are the article you see about the region in a magazine has been generated or managed through our office!

Bundaberg Tourism’s PR strategy leverages our national and international media network to disperse positive promotion of the region through partnerships with trusted and influential traditional media and digital outlets.

PR & Publicity

Bundaberg Storytelling Platforms PR

WHAT IS PUBLICITY?

Publicity refers to the information presented to the general public via the media. Publicity serves to create awareness or build credibility about an entity through news, press releases, event information and other forms of communication. The main goal of publicity is to gain any amount of media coverage.

WHAT IS PR?

Public relations (PR) refers to the strategies of managing how others see and feel about a person, brand, or company. Bundaberg Tourism's destination PR is about maintaining a positive regional image while handling media requests and supporting our stakeholders.  PR is especially important following negative news announcements or events, like natural disasters and business collapses. PR is different from advertising or marketing as it’s often meant to look organic.

WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE FOR BT?

There are a number of ways we use PR to communicate about the destination.  These may take the form of press releases, publicity stunts, media launches, events, community outreach, advocacy, presentations, and social responsibility programs.  We disperse our PR and monitor the outcomes through a number of outlets, including through:

  • TEQ and TA
  • Via our network of journalists, publications and influencers;
  • Our annual partnership with TravMedia, a comprehensive platform trusted by travel PR professionals and media to network and share press releases, stories and ideas, monitor international media coverage, as well as to collaborate and develop long-lasting relationships with journalists and trusted digital influencers;
  • Our various platforms such as social media, corporate channels like LinkedIn, and our website.
