Bundy’s Best Swims: Classic spots everyone should dive into

Bundaberg’s summer is all about cooling off in the water. From calm rivers and shady creeks to freshwater lakes and easy-access pools, these classic swimming spots have been delighting locals and visitors for generations. Perfect for families, solo adventurers, or groups of mates, they’re reliable, beautiful, and ready for you to take a dip.

Kellys Beach, Bargara
An easy favourite for families. Perfect boogie boarding waves, patrolled, dedicated surf sections, and nearby cafes and fish and chips make it a winner.

Paired with calm waters at Moneys Creek makes it the number one spot to go for a swim.

Why you’ll love it: It’s safe, easy, and has that old-school beachside charm.
Pro tip: Before you hit the beach, enjoy some lunch and gelato at The Windmill Café. We recommend the poke bowl, garnished with house made, dukkah.

Elliott Heads
Where the river meets the ocean, Elliott Heads is versatile for paddleboarding, wading, or floating in the shallows. Low tide brings out natural rock pools, great for kids or gentle exploration.

Why you’ll love it: A mix of river and ocean gives it something for everyone.

Pro tip: Heading back from the beach, stop in at the amazing Tinaberries for a beautiful, fresh fruit icecream.

Norville Pool
Safe, easy, and family friendly, Norville Pool is perfect for laps, learning to swim, sliding down water slides, or just hanging out in the water. Shaded seating and shallow areas make it perfect for little ones.

Pro tip: Bring floaties for the kids and enjoy a few hours of relaxed water fun.

Woodgate Beach & Theodolite Creek
Stretching for kilometres, Woodgate Beach is a favourite for locals seeking space and calm. The main beach is wide, shallow, and perfect for a long, easy swim or a lazy paddle.

Wander a little and you’ll find Theodolite Creek, where the waters are gentle and ideal for wading, floating, or letting the kids splash about safely.

Pro tip: Early mornings or late afternoons are magic soft light, minimal crowds, and the kind of quiet that makes you feel like you’ve discovered your own little slice of the Bundaberg region.

Moore Park Beach
Moore Park Beach is a long, sandy stretch that’s perfect for a relaxed swim or a gentle paddle. The water is shallow and calm near the shore, making it ideal for families or anyone looking for an easy day by the ocean. With plenty of space to spread out, you can enjoy the sun, toss a ball, or just float around without feeling crowded.

Why you’ll love it:
Wide, open beach, calm waters, and that laid-back Bundy vibe.

Lake Monduran
A freshwater escape just outside Bundaberg, Lake Monduran is perfect for a long, lazy swim, kayaking, or just floating with the family. With picnic areas, toilets, and easy access from the car park, it’s a low-stress day out. Anglers love it too, so you might spot someone casting a line while you cool off.

Pro tip: Bring a kayak or inflatable to explore the lake and enjoy the peaceful surrounds.
