Top 10 Family Fun Things in Bundaberg These Spring School Holidays

Spring has arrived in Bundaberg, bringing sunshine, longer days and the perfect excuse to get out and explore with the kids these school holidays. From reef adventures and strawberry picking to animal encounters and sweet local treats, there’s no shortage of fun for the whole family. To help you plan, we’ve rounded up the top things to see, do and taste this spring.

1. SNORKEL & EXPLORE LADY MUSGRAVE ISLAND

Take a full-day trip with Lady Musgrave Experience. You’ll set off from Burnett Heads aboard the luxury Reef Empress, enjoy morning and afternoon tea, a buffet lunch, and explore the island from the LMHQ pontoon. Activities include snorkelling with turtles, glass-bottom boat rides, an underwater observatory, and island walks with a guide or marine biologist. It’s an unforgettable adventure for all ages!

Local Mum Tip: The calm waters of the lagoon make for the perfect family reef adventures, especially for first-timers!

2. PICK STRAWBERRIES AT TINABERRIES

A classic family outing awaits at Tinaberries! Wander through the strawberry fields, pick your own berries, and treat yourselves to fresh and fruity ice cream. Perfect for little hands, and a delicious stop if you’re exploring the region.

Local Mum Tip: Say g'day to the friendly galah and make the most of the giant lawn games - our favourite is Connect 4.

3. ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS

Snakes Downunder Reptile Park and Zoo is a must for curious kids who want to meet snakes, reptiles, and even crocodiles up close.

Alexandra Park Zoo offers free entry and holiday zookeeper talks — a great way for kids to learn about their favourite animals while having fun.

Local Mum Tip: Alexandra Park offers hours of free play for high energy littlies - take a picnic and relax in the shade.

4. BUNDABERG BREWED DRINKS TOURS & TASTINGS

For families with older kids or parents who love a behind-the-scenes experience, the Bundaberg Brewed Drinks tours show how this iconic ginger beer is made. Don’t forget to try the flavours — it’s a treat for the whole family!

Local Mum Tip: Get a family photo on a six-pack of ginger beer to take home as a delicious and quirky gift for the grandparents.

5. MACADAMIAS AUSTRALIA ORCHARD & TOURS

Explore the orchard, see how macadamias are grown and processed, and taste fresh roasted nuts at Macadamias Australia Visitor Experience. It’s a peaceful, tasty, and educational day-trip that kids and adults alike will enjoy.

Local Mum Tip: Sit outside in the Orchard Cafe and let the kids crack nuts in the orchard and play in the grass for some wholesome downtime.

6. BEACH STAY & ACTIVITIES

Spend the day (or longer!) at Kellys Beach Resort, C Bargara Resort, Absolute Oceanfront Tourist Park, or Discovery Holiday Parks Bargara. Splash in the waves, ride bikes along the foreshore, and join organised kids’ activities — or just relax with your toes in the sand.

Local Mum Tip: Riding the Turtle Trail is an absolute winner for tiring out the kids!  Little legs will love exploring in shorter bursts along the Bargara Foreshore and bigger kids will love the ocean-front adventures that the Bargara to Burnett Heads leg provides - it's takes around 45 minutes each way with cycle-confident tweens so wear lots of sunscreen and allow for a milkshake stop in Burnett Heads before you head back.

7. BOWLING, LASER TAG & INDOOR PLAY AT BUNDY BOWL & LEISURE

Bundy Bowl & Leisure is the ultimate holiday go-to for families come rain or shine. From ten-pin bowling to laser tag and mini-golf, it’s a high-energy indoor playground for kids of all ages.

Local Mum Tip: Check out the packages for great value.  These days my tweens love Zone 3 Laser Tag and Jurassic Putt, and when they were littlies I couldn't get them off the Big Dipper Slide & Playground

8. CULTURAL & LEARNING MOMENTS

Taribelang Bunda Cultural Tours offers cultural tours that teach kids about local Indigenous history.

Fairymead House in the Botanic Gardens shows a slice of Bundaberg’s heritage.

Nature Nurture Centre / Mystery Craters invites families to explore geological wonders and enjoy interactive nature walks — perfect for curious little explorers.

Local Mum Tip: Check at Mystery Craters new AI experience for tech-loving families

9. TREATS & SWEET STOPS

Even the fussiest of eaters will go crazy for these delicious destinations!

Try Cha Cha Chocolate for handmade chocolate delights; The Mill Group (Windmill Café, Garden Mill, and Beach Mill) for relaxed family-friendly cafés with room to play and One Little Farm, The Farm Shed Fruit Stall, and Bargara Berries for fresh fruit, farm gate experiences, and tasty snacks along the way.

Local Mum Tip: The Garden Mill is an animal-lovers delight with miniature goats, chickens and guinea pigs on site to help minimise waste.

10. FREE & COMMUNITY EVENTS

Keep an eye on Bundaberg Regional Council programs over the school holidays! Families can enjoy self-guided garden trails and activity sheets in the Botanic Gardens and craft and library events, including storytimes, Lego sessions, and art workshops.

Local Mum Tip: The Australian Sugar Cane Railway has been entertaining my family right through from toddlers to tweens.  During Queensland school holidays, they run on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 9am and 3pm
