Wuruma is a local Indigenous word for the majestic bird of prey known as the brahminy kite. Located 48 kilometres north of Eidsvold on the Nogo River, Lake Wuruma is one of the North Burnett’s favourite spots for fishing, boating and relaxing by the water. Holding up to 165,000 megalitres of water, the lake provides vital irrigation for the region’s agricultural industries.
Facilities include boat ramps, designated camping areas, sheltered picnic spots, wood barbecues and public amenities, making it easy to settle in for a day or a weekend outdoors.
Anglers flock to Lake Wuruma for the chance to hook Australian bass, barramundi, golden perch and silver perch, while breeding populations of eel-tailed catfish, spangled perch and eels also thrive in the lake. Thanks to ongoing fish stocking programs and its reputation as one of the few Bass and Barra lakes in Queensland, it’s a favourite among keen fishos.
