About Bundaberg Tourism
Who we are
Bundaberg Tourism (BT) is the trusted regional tourism organisation for the Bundaberg and North Burnett regions. Since 1971, we’ve worked as a member-based, not-for-profit organisation to support local tourism businesses and grow a strong, sustainable visitor economy.
We partner with more than 100 local businesses, from accommodation, tours, and attractions to cafés, transport, and retailers, to make sure tourism benefits everyone.
What We Do &
why it matters
We’re here to connect people: industry leaders, our community, stakeholders, and visitors. We bring them together with a clear, friendly voice and real purpose.
We focus on five key areas:
- Destination Marketing & PR – promoting Bundaberg and the Southern Great Barrier Reef (SGBR) to the world.
- Visitor Services & Experience – helping visitors feel welcome, inspired, and supported.
- Product & Experience Development – supporting tourism operators as they innovate and grow.
- Industry Support – building capability through training, mentoring, and collaborative programs.
- Destination Stewardship – advocating for sustainable and responsible tourism.
Where
We Operate
BT serves two Local Government Areas: Bundaberg Regional Council and North Burnett Regional Council. Our region stretches from Lady Elliot Island in the east, past Mundubbera to the west, and from Baffle Creek in the north to the Burrum River in the south.
Our Vision
& impact
We believe Bundaberg and the SGBR should be known for something special – and they are. Our vision is to be the destination of choice for the Southern Great Barrier Reef, anchored by world-class turtle encounters, unique reef experiences, and a food and drink scene that’s deeply proud of its local roots.
Tourism isn’t just about visitors – it’s about community. In 2023/24, tourism made up 6.4% of our region’s Gross Regional Product, and supported thousands of local jobs.
Our
commitment
& Values
Partnership-first: We’re governed by a volunteer board of local leaders who are deeply invested in our shared future
Clear Communication: We speak in plain English – no jargon, no fluff – so our partners always know where things stand.
Sustainability: Our region has achieved ECO Destination Certification through Ecotourism Australia, reflecting our commitment to long-term environmental, cultural, and economic health.
Respect for Country: We proudly acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands and seas in our region, including the Taribelang Bunda, Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang, Bailai, Wakka Wakka, and Wulli Wulli Peoples, and support respectful, culturally sensitive tourism.
DESTINATION VISION
To be recognised as a leading sustainable destination, where great care begins – grounded in the collective treasures of the Southern Great Barrier Reef. From Australia’s premier turtle encounters to Queensland’s most celebrated food and drink experiences and the fertile farmlands that sustain them, the Bundaberg region is defined by nature, nurtured by community, and driven by purpose.
ORGANISATION MISSION
Bundaberg Tourism will ignite the sustainable growth of the region’s tourism industry, working in partnership with industry to deliver meaningful economic, environmental, and social outcomes within our communities.
We will be valued by members and stakeholders and recognised as a high-performing destination management organisation for the Bundaberg & North Burnett regions, driving regional prosperity.
Our PARTNERS
Partnership is at the centre of how we work, with industry, councils and stakeholders helping shape priorities and keep us grounded in what matters.
