Miriam Vale is located on the Bruce Highway, 475 kilometres north of Brisbane, with the main north–south rail line running through town. Home to around 600 residents, this quaint rural community supports the timber, cattle and dairy industries and offers travellers a relaxed place to rest and recharge.
It is also home to the iconic Big Crab, a well-known stop for anyone collecting pics in front of Australia’s famous “big things” such as the Big Prawn or Big Banana. Many visitors call into the service station beneath the giant crab for one of their popular mud crab sandwiches.
Miriam Vale is a fantastic place to stretch your legs; check out the local park, visit the quintessentially Aussie pub or simply amble through the town’s traditional main street. The area draws steady tourist numbers thanks to good fishing, nearby national parks and strong growth along the coastal fringe.
The town is also a key gateway to the Discovery Coast, including Agnes Water, Seventeen Seventy, Eurimbula, Baffle Creek and Deepwater National Parks.
