Just 8km from Childers, Russo Park is a peaceful nature reserve where visitors can immerse themselves in the region’s unique flora and fauna.
Three walking tracks wind through the park alongside Stockyard Creek, offering plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife and explore the natural surroundings.
The Blue Gum Track is a short 200m walk that follows the creek through bushland to a magnificent Blue Gum tree, estimated to be more than 200 years old and perfect for a photo stop.
The Lookout Track stretches 400m and leads to one of the highest points in the area, rewarding visitors with views of the surrounding landscape and natural beauty.
A third, shorter track meanders down to the creek’s edge and an atmospheric tangle of rainforest vines, a remnant of the once-extensive Isis Scrub rainforest that surrounded Childers.
Nature lovers will appreciate the park’s diverse native trees, shrubs and birdlife. Along Stockyard Creek, shaded freshwater habitat supports Azure Kingfishers, frogs and dragonflies, while lucky visitors may even spot a platypus along the creek banks.
The park plays an important role in ecological conservation, with all plants and wildlife protected. To help preserve this special environment, dogs and other domestic animals are not permitted.
