Smiths Crossing

Smiths Crossing Road, Avondale, Queensland 4670

A great spot for a paddle and a bit of birdwatching, Smiths Crossing sits on the Kolan River surrounded by excellent rainforest.

From Bundaberg, follow Gin Gin Road and turn onto Rosedale Road. Continue for around 15 minutes until you cross the Kolan River/Yandaran Creek, then take the next left and follow the road to the river. Don’t turn towards Invicta. Picnic tables and toilet facilities are available on site.

A number of informal tracks lead into the rainforest and along the river, providing opportunities to spot a variety of rainforest bird species.

Smiths Crossing is also a popular launch point for kayaks. Paddle upstream for around six kilometres until reaching a shallow section, or head downstream for approximately three kilometres to the Rosedale Road bridge. The original causeway on the southern approach remains in place and continues to provide easy access to the water.
