First Nations
History
The Bundaberg Region sits on the traditional lands of the Taribelang Bunda people, whose connection to Country stretches back over 60,000 years. For millennia, the Taribelang Bunda have cared for the land, waterways, and coastlines, passing knowledge, stories, and cultural practices from generation to generation.
Their deep understanding of the landscape shaped sustainable ways of living, from hunting and gathering to seasonal practices that maintained the health of forests, rivers, and reefs. Sites across Bundaberg, Childers, Gin Gin, and the North Burnett hold special significance, telling stories of survival, connection, and community that continue to this day.
