What A Director Does
WHAT A BOARD DIRECTOR
actually does
Bundaberg Tourism’s elected directors aren’t there to represent a postcode, sector or personal agenda. They’re there to make smart, collective decisions in the best interests of the whole organisation. Every voice counts, but once the call is made, it’s a team decision.
At a high level, the Board sets the direction and keeps the ship steady. They focus on strategy, performance and governance, while the CEO and team get on with delivering the work. Think: set the game plan, not run onto the field.
Directors carry real responsibility. Legal, financial and reputational. They review strategy, monitor results, manage risk and make sure the organisation is operating properly now and into the future.
It’s not a set-and-forget gig either. Regular meetings, prep work, committee involvement and ongoing engagement with industry and stakeholders make this a hands-on volunteer role. Directors are required to be thoughtful and always focused on the bigger picture.
Directors aren’t there to run the business. They’re there to steer it, challenge it and make sure it delivers for the people it serves.
