THE BENEFITS OF INCLUSIVE TOURISM

Accessible tourism empowers everyone to engage in tourism experiences with confidence and without boundaries.

People with access requirements encompass various groups, such as parents with prams, seniors with mobility needs, and individuals with disabilities—whether permanent or temporary, spanning physical, sensory, intellectual, or neurological challenges.

Accessible

& INCLUSIVE TOURISM

Accessible tourism ensures destinations, products and services are usable by people of all abilities. Inclusive tourism goes further, creating environments where everyone feels genuinely welcome and comfortable.

For tourism businesses, this is both a responsibility and a clear opportunity. With 1 in 5 Australians living with disability, improving accessibility opens your doors to a broader market, enhances the visitor experience, and strengthens your competitive edge.

By embracing inclusive practices, you’re not just meeting expectations, you’re building a more resilient, future-ready business aligned with a tourism industry that values access, connection and real experiences for all.

BUNDABERG REGION INCLUSIVE TOURISM LEGACY BUILDING PROJECT

An initiative of Bundaberg Tourism awarded through the Queensland Government’s Accessible Tourism Elevate Fund – Access Project Grant

We thank all those involved for their commitment to growing accessible experiences across the Bundaberg region, and for contributing to the development of the following project initiatives:

  • Industry Training – Introducing Accessible & Inclusive Tourism and exploring Accessible Events with GetAboutAble.
  • Development of seventeen (17) operator audio guides to create immersive experiences and increase access to perceptible travel information for people of all abilities.
  • Creation of an Accessible Destination Visitor Guide which will be a central source of information for visitors with accessibility overviews of tourism business across the region.
  • Delivery of an immersive and all-inclusive sensory event in region to grow awareness of our accessible offerings and inclusive destination experiences for the community and visitors alike.

As we take this next step in building our region’s legacy as a truly inclusive destination, providing authentic, accessible and transformative visitor experiences for all, we look forward to continuing this momentum and fostering stronger connection across industry and community to elevate how we communicate the regions accessible experiences to support confident trave decisions for people living with disability.

We also acknowledge our project partners – Bundaberg Regional Council, Wide Bay Kids Inc., All Abilities Alliance Bundaberg, Vacayit, Party Higher, and GetAboutAble – for ensuring this project delivered significant outcomes for all visitors.
