DESTINATION MANAGEMENT PLAN 2022-32

As we look towards 2032 and the possibilities for the Bundaberg Region, the Board and stakeholders of Bundaberg Tourism invite you to join us in designing the new Destination Management Plan tourism strategy that will take us into the future. This next Destination Management Plan (2022 – 2032) for the Bundaberg Region needs to be bold, future-focused and vibrant, and your input is incredibly important. With your help, ideas and energy, we will be exploring ways to drive demand and grow supply, supported by a highly capable, passionate and strategic tourism ecosystem.

BACKGROUND

The 2019 – 2022 Destination Tourism Plan (DTP) was produced for the Bundaberg Region in 2018 with community and stakeholder consultation, resident surveying and focus group discussions. Underpinning the DTP are the foundational pillars and strategic priority areas for the organisation and its stakeholders:

Whilst the foundations of the 2019 DTP are still relevant today, the global operating environment has dramatically changed, the hopes and desires of consumers have shifted, and the Bundaberg visitor offering has developed exponentially. The next tourism strategy document for the Bundaberg region needs to be vibrant, bold and future focused. It will be built on collaborative consultation and owned by the community and key regional stakeholders, it will consider both the micro and macro environments that Bundaberg Tourism as an organisation, and Bundaberg as a destination operates within, and it will have a mindset of sustainability embedded across every action.

THE DMP DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

EarthCheck has been appointed to lead the DMP.  EarthCheck is a globally recognised brand that fosters sustainable development and engages 6 million conscious travellers a week through a range of products and services aimed at making the visitor economy a major contributor to  a better world.  Their experienced team are committed to providing a wider range of world leading solutions to their clients.

TheEarthCheck company services tourism clients in over 70 countries and has led the development of a wide range of tourism strategic planning and feasibility projects throughout Australia and internationally. Recent work has included the Mackay Destination Tourism Plan, Baiao Destination Stewardship Plan, Destination Sydney Surrounds, North and Destination North Coast Destination Management Plans.

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Country on which we work, live and play across Bundaberg and the North Burnett, Taribelang Bunda, Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang, Bailai and the Wakka Wakka and Auburn Hawkwood (Wulli Wulli) People as the Traditional Custodians of the precious land, water and sea country on which we all love to work, live and play.

We recognise the thousands of generations of continuous culture that have shaped this country and the people on it.

And we pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and look forward to working with all First Nations People in the Bundaberg and North Burnett regions in sharing culture through tourism, in the spirit of mutual respect and reconciliation.
