Mount Perry
Copper with a Side of Character
Mount Perry’s a little town with a big story. Built on sheep, gold and copper, you can still feel its history in every creak of a pub floorboard and every smile from a local.
Mount Perry made its name digging copper out of the ground, and the town’s still got that tough, determined streak. There’s history in the buildings, stories in the streets and locals who are always up for a yarn if you’ve got the time.
Things
to do
Kick things off at the Mount Perry Museum, then cruise over to Boolboonda Tunnel — the southern hemisphere’s longest hand‑dug unsupported tunnel, and quite possibly the biggest “she’ll be right” engineering flex around.
Out at Mingo Crossing, you’ll find the perfect spot to kick back with the family. Think camping under the stars, boating on Paradise Dam and sizzling up a feed on the barbie.
For those who like a bit of action, Mount Perry’s peak rises 750 metres above sea level and is a magnet for mountain bikers and hikers . There’s a track for everyone – from cruisy strolls to calf-burning climbs.
So pack the gear, round up the crew and head out to this hidden gem in the North Burnett.
Big Races, Big Characters,
big vibes
Woodchopping is in Mount Perry’s DNA, with generations of champion choppers calling the town home. Every October, the town’s Axemen and Sawyers Club take over the Grand Hotel for a weekend of big swings, flying chips, and cold drinks on the verandah. Pull up a stool, cheer on the locals, and make a weekend of it.
