When his English home (named Mon Repos, after a beach in Bundaberg) faced demolition in 1983, a group of locals refused to let it go. They dismantled it, shipped it across the world and rebuilt it right here in the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens.⁠

Today, it stands overlooking the very field where Bert landed after that record-breaking flight.⁠
