TOURISM LEADERS DESCEND ON BUNDABERG FOR WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

Tourism leaders from across the state will come together in Bundaberg on 2 June to celebrate the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day.

Partnering with Bundaberg Tourism, the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) will be hosting their annual World Environment Day Breakfast at the Mon Repos Turtle Centre to champion sustainability within the tourism sector.

QTIC CEO Brett Fraser said the event will shine not only a light on the importance of safeguarding the natural environment, but it will also put the eyes of the state’s tourism industry on Bundaberg.

“The Bundaberg region is a jewel in Queensland’s ecotourism crown,” Fraser said.

“What better place to recognise World Environment Day than in a region that serves as a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and is a staunch advocate of sustainability.

“Nature and tourism go hand in hand. Our international and domestic visitors are increasingly seeking wide open spaces and experiences that bring them closer to the natural environment. Bundaberg is excelling in this market.

“From our savannahs to our rainforests and Great Barrier Reef, the importance of the environment to our Queensland tourism brand is immense. It is imperative that we protect and safeguard our natural assets,” said Fraser.

Katherine Reid, CEO of Bundaberg Tourism said, “As the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, and the town the turtles call home, what better place to celebrate World Environment Day than our little slice of paradise, Bundaberg. With fertile landscapes, thriving wildlife and unique ecosystems, the Bundaberg Region is a living testament that each and every action counts.

Supported by a community renowned for their unwavering commitment to sustainability, this is a great opportunity for the region to come together, reflect on our past accomplishments, inspire change and chart an even greener future.”

Tourism operators and businesses are encouraged to secure tickets to the World Environment Day Breakfast through the QTIC website at qtic.com.au/events/world-environment-day-breakfast/.

The QTIC World Environment Day Breakfast is made possible through the generous support of sponsors, EarthCheck, Fun Over Fifty, and NRMA.
