The Bundaberg Region is a media darling worldwide and here’s the proof. From coast to hinterland, from reef-side escapes to community heroes, the spotlight is shining brighter than ever. Our latest media roll-call shows just how much the region is turning heads, both across Australia and beyond.

Who’s Visited Recently

We were delighted to partner with Tourism and Events Queensland, Canon and leading travel publication Travie Magazine to welcome 16 Korean photographers and content creators into the region to boost awareness of Bundaberg and Queensland in the South Korean market. As part of a Canon-led competition, winners, influencers, and media visited operators across Bundaberg to capture photographic content, which will be included in a massive inclusion in Travie’s December issue. This high-value famil will position Queensland as a must-visit destination for young independent Korean travellers and support future visitation and economic growth.

The Region also supported travel writer and radio journalist Michael Turtle on a 10-day media drive famil along the Pacific Coast Way, covering Fraser Coast, Bundaberg, 1770/Agnes Water and Capricorn, as part of Tourism and Events Queensland’s Drive Tourism campaign. The trip highlighted both iconic and unexpected experiences to inspire Australians to choose a Queensland road holiday. Michael will produce stories for the Canberra Times (syndicated across 50+ NSW regional outlets), share content via his ABC Sydney radio segment, and pitch additional pieces to Explore Travel.

Freelance travel writer Helen Hayes also spent time in region for a TEQ-led ‘Reef by Rail’ famil – travelling along the coast by train and jumping off at different points to explore the Great Barrier Reef. She visited Lady Elliot Island and Turtle Sands on this leg of her epic adventure.

What’s Making Waves At The Moment

Lady Elliot Island consistently captures global media attention because it offers one of the world’s most reliable, up-close experiences with marine life, especially during manta ray season, when hundreds of these gentle giants glide through its pristine waters. With crystal-clear visibility, a thriving coral ecosystem and world-leading sustainability practices, the island delivers the kind of iconic Great Barrier Reef footage and storytelling international outlets love.

The Mon Repos Turtle Centre is another hot topic because it offers a rare, awe-inspiring window into nature, where sea turtles come ashore to nest, and their hatchlings make their first journey to the ocean. With tickets for turtle‑encounter tours selling fast each season, it attracts nature lovers from across Australia and the world.

The influx of visitors has a powerful economic ripple: in a record‑nesting season over 500 turtles have laid eggs and the event generates around A$21 million in visitor spending annually, drawing as many as 30,000 tourists to the region who stay, dine and explore the region. Bundaberg Tourism support a lot of media coverage for Mon Repos as a major driver of tourism, supporting local jobs, businesses and uplifting the broader Bundaberg Region economy.

Why It Matters

Public relations plays a critical role in marketing a region because it goes beyond advertising, building credibility and trust. When trusted publications feature stories about a destination, they act as independent endorsements, sharing experiences, attractions, and events with key target markets. This kind of coverage reaches audiences who might not actively be searching for the destination, influencing perceptions, inspiring travel, and lifting the profile of the region in ways that paid advertising alone can’t. By leveraging compelling stories - from iconic natural wonders to local events - PR helps a region stand out, attract visitors, and generate economic benefits for local communities.

As Bundaberg Region gains traction, more visitors = more opportunities for local businesses. As we build on this momentum, we’re not just riding a wave, we’re shaping a future where regional living, sustainable tourism and local culture are front and centre.

What’s Next

We’ll keep chasing the stories, the reef divers, beach-goers, behind-the-scenes producers, food lovers and cultural advocates, packaging fresh itineraries and experiences for anyone looking to rediscover or explore Bundaberg. Stay tuned for our monthly “Who’s Hot In Region” updates!
