Alexandra Link | ELLE Germany

After New Zealand, Germany is Bundaberg Southern Great Barrier Reef’s largest international market so the opportunity to host Deputy Editor-in-Chief Digital at ELLE Germany, Harpers BAZAAR Germany and Esquire Germany, Alexandra Link was a great synergy!

Delivered in partnership with TEQ, this was actually Alexa’s first trip to Australia! Her itinerary consisted of fast-paced city experiences in Brisbane, luxe wonders of The Whitsundays and three beautiful days in Bundaberg nestled in between!

On Monday evening, we engaged local event stylist, Amanda Gazdagh from The Picnic Basket who created an incredible setup in Surfriders Park overlooking Nielson’s Beach. Combining the warm tones of gold and orange décor with native floral arrangements – talk about hitting the brief! As the sun began to set, Alexa joined a Yarning Circle with Taribelang Bunda women, Bec Domaille, Waszanna Reed and beloved Elder Aunty Di. Together, we shared an insight into the Region’s history in open conversation over some delicious dishes of Davidson Plum Kangaroo, Finger Lime Crocodile and Fig Cake.

After a good night’s sleep at C Bargara, an early start the next day called for an impromptu coffee watching the silver surfers at The Beach Mill. Coffee in hand, Grace and Alexa shared conversation on the importance of eco experiences and how the entire region is championing sustainable ways of living in their everyday.  Alexa then flew to Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort for the night, where she snorkeled alongside turtles in the crystal clear waters of the lagoon and savoured every second of the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

On the final night of Alexa’s Bundaberg visit, contemporary Australian dining was on the menu, with a reservation at Water Street Kitchen, where Alex Cameron shared the venue's cult-favourite cocktails, hero dishes and the meals most loved by guests with the table.

The European market adore the fewer crowds and off-the-beaten-track experiences we have on the Southern Great Barrier Reef, so this was a great itinerary to highlight that with Alexandra.

Natascha Mirosch | Freelance Journalist

Freelance food, travel and lifestyle writer Natascha Mirosch returned to the Bundaberg Region in February, to revisit some fond favourites, soak up the Southern Great Barrier Reef and experience some of our Region’s newest offerings.

With the eco-accredited Kellys Beach Resort as her home away from home, Natascha ticked turtles off her bucket list every Bundy way possible, with a nightly tour at Mon Repos Turtle Centre, and day trips to Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort and with Lady Musgrave Experience.

Hosted by Bundaberg Tourism’s Marketing Coordinator, and lead on the destinations culinary campaign, Connie Rixon, the pair enjoyed dinner at Berts Restaurant, breakfast at One Little Farm, a seafood feast at Grunskes by the River and the Yesterday Today Tomorrow Tour with Taribelang Bunda Cultural Tours.

It’s safe to say Water Street Kitchen’s Sand Crab Lasagne is sexy enough to keep you coming back from more, so adding a dinner date into Natascha’s itinerary for WSK was a no brainer! Having previously been privy to a sneak peek of Macadamias Australia on her last visit to the region, this trip was the perfect opportunity for Natascha to see the final product, experiencing the incredible offering of the Visitors Centre and The Orchard Table.

Sharing the stories of the people she meets on her travels, and celebrating the joyous synchronicity between gastronomy and travel, Natascha’s chat with Amy Gash is a great insight into the world and work of Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort. Have a listen on the Extra Virgin Food and Travel Podcast.

We’ll be sure to share the final piece once it’s published, but in the meantime, why not read some of the previous Bundaberg stories Natascha has written:

TEQ Cultural Team

In January, our team welcomed Tourism and Events Experiences Director, John Huggins and Tourism and Events Experiences Specialist, Evelyn Kimber, from TEQ to showcase the regions new and emerging cultural tourism experiences.

Responsible for leading activity across TEQ to grow Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tourism in Queensland through consumer marketing, destination and experience development and events, John and Evelyn spent time connecting with industry, building meaningful relations and learning about our regions admirable collaborations to support the ongoing development of authentic, engaging and sustainable Indigenous tourism experiences and growth.

From exploring behind the scenes of the regions exciting new, Murra Wolka factory, tasting bush flavours across the menu of the Milbi Cafe at Mon Repos, and connecting on Country with Taribelang Bunda Cultural Tours on an immersive half-day tour visiting sacred sites of significance.

There are so opportunities for First Nations peoples and Indigenous tourism, and connecting the Region’s cultural tourism experiences with industry specialists such as John and Evelyn allows us to support the sustainable growth and development of these offerings.

Jacinta Shackleton | TEQ

Who needs a date for Valentine’s Day when you’re capturing the awe-inspiring moment a clutch of hatchlings emerges from their nest and make their dash down to the ocean?! Well that’s exactly how Bundaberg Tourism’s Marketing Coordinator, Grace Boothman spent February 14th!

Working with Tourism and Events Queensland to create refreshed content, organically capturing the magic of the Mon Repos Turtle Encounter, we were excited to work with Videographer and Photographer Jacinta Shackleton for this production. As a Master Reef Guide, Marine Biologist and TEQ Content Creator, Jacinta was able to apply this expertise to the shoot, ensuring that the turtles' best interest was the number one priority. This was the final shoot for this project, having captured the Nesting experience in December. A massive thank you to Lauren, Cathy and Nikki at Mon Repos for your support and assistance with this production (and for answering Grace’s many manic phone calls about the weather!)

Whilst the final content is yet to be released, why not learn a little bit more about Jacinta, and her work as a Master Reef Guide on Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort on Channel Nine’s My Way.
