Bundaberg’s visitor economy has reached another exciting milestone, with the region’s first major new hotel in more than 20 years “topping out” as construction continues beside Bundaberg Airport.
The three-storey MVP Airport Hotel at 45 Airport Drive, Kensington will feature 97 rooms, a restaurant and bar, conference facilities, a pool and gym. Completion is expected in 2027. The topping out marks the completion of the hotel’s main structural frame and is an important step forward for a development that will increase the range and capacity of accommodation available within the Bundaberg Region.
Building capacity for a growing destination
For Bundaberg Tourism, the development represents an important investment in the infrastructure that supports the region’s visitor economy. Bundaberg Tourism CEO Duncan Littler said the project would strengthen the region’s ability to attract and accommodate overnight visitors as well as conferences and business travel.
“This is a significant investment in Bundaberg’s visitor economy and a strong vote of confidence in the region’s continued growth.
“The MVP Airport Hotel will increase our capacity to attract overnight visitors, conferences and business travel, while creating flow-on opportunities for tourism operators and local businesses across the region.”
With its location adjacent to Bundaberg Airport, the hotel will provide convenient accommodation for visitors arriving in the region while also supporting conferences, events and corporate travel.
Confidence in the Bundaberg Region
The development has also been welcomed by Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn, who described the milestone as a vote of confidence in the region.
The Mayor highlighted the importance of the project in expanding the quality accommodation available to visitors, creating local jobs and supporting the tourism, events and business economy. Bundaberg Regional Council has supported the development through its Projects of Regional Significance program.
The project is being developed by MVP Bundaberg Pty Ltd, with financing provided through TPT Wealth and supported by the complementary strengths of MyState Group businesses, including Auswide Bank’s longstanding connection with Bundaberg and the Wide Bay region.
MyState Limited Managing Director and CEO Brett Morgan said the project aligned with the Group’s focus on backing regional growth and investing in communities where it operates.
What comes next?
With the main structure now topped out, work will move into the next stages of the project, including external works, services installation and internal fit-out ahead of expected completion in 2027.
Once complete, the MVP Airport Hotel will add 97 rooms and 102 beds to the region’s accommodation offering, together with a restaurant, bar, conference room, pool and gym.
For the Bundaberg Region, it represents more than a new place to stay. It is another significant investment in the infrastructure needed to support the continued development of the region’s visitor economy.
