How To Leverage Bundaberg's Annual Events Campaign

With it’s warm hospitality, stunning natural beauty, and vibrant culture, Bundaberg Southern Great Barrier Reef is not just a destination; it's an experience.

The region's events play a pivotal role in weaving the fabric of its economy, attracting visitors, enhancing its profile, and fostering community pride, by creating employment opportunities and engaging the local community. Whether they are music festivals, foodie feasts, arts and culture events or live sports, each event shares the heart, soul and spirit of Bundaberg and the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

In recognition of the economic potential of events, Bundaberg Tourism introduced the Annual Events Campaign, targeting high value travellers within the 400km drive radius of the region. The campaign aims to support emerging events, increase visitor numbers, extend their length stay, boost overnight spending, and ensure visitors explore every corner of the region.

Following on from its success in 2023, the Annual Events Campaign aims to immerse visitors in unforgettable experiences aligned with Tourism and Events Queensland’s messaging, encouraging them to ‘be front and centre’ and ‘be part of the action’. Leveraging Bundaberg’s warm and welcoming spirit, the campaign sought to tug at visitors’ heartstrings and tap into the authentic Bundy spirit through evocative content and evocative storytelling, showcasing feel-good, heartwarming events designed to make visitors stay longer and play harder.

Events like Lighthouse Country, Childers Festival, Bulldogs vs. Dolphins NRL Game, and Taste Bundaberg Festival are not just dates on a calendar; they're opportunities for visitors to immerse themselves in Bundaberg's unique offerings. These events inspire attendees to stay longer, experience more, and forge lasting memories.

In 2023, the campaign delivered over 721 leads generated for operators, an estimated regional visitor expenditure of $441,973, and an impressive Return on Investment of 200:1. Social media metrics saw significant growth, indicating heightened engagement and interest in Bundaberg's events, with an incredible +4724% increase in engagements, compared to the previous year.

Every dollar invested in events is a dollar invested in experience and destination marketing. Events complement leisure travel, particularly outside peak holiday periods, and encourage greater visitor dispersal throughout regional Queensland. With a calendar brimming with incredible events, Bundaberg beckons visitors to embark on unforgettable adventures year-round.
