A Day Trip Among the Hinterlands

Explore the rolling green hills and hidden gems of our hinterland towns with this adventure filled road trip.

Breakfast with a Canadian twist

Start your morning with a hearty breakfast and hot coffee from the charming Mollydookers Café. Renowned for their deliciously large Canadian inspired meals made from locally sourced produce, this café is one stop that will leave your taste buds tingling and belly full.

Snap a selfie with a koala!

If you have ever wanted to roam kangaroo filled pastures, hold an albino python, or get a photo with a Koala, a stop into Snakes Downunder Reptile Park & Zoo is a must! Let the passionate and experienced team help you get up close to these cheeky characters and be sure to keep your camera close to capture those special encounters.

Go nuts for Childers gourmet ice cream!

Experience Childers like a local and taste the creamy sweetness of local favourite Mammino’s Gourmet Ice Cream. With rows upon rows for macadamia tree’s abundantly grown throughout the town and on the Mammino’s family farm, you simply can’t go past trying their Marvellous Macadamia or Red Dirt (a playful Jaffa and macadamia combo that is simply delicious) ice cream. With a wide range of flavours to choose from, don’t miss this traditional delight!

One for the History Buffs

The town of Childers is home to rich history, friendly locals and boutique shops that will both surprise and delight. Before venturing onto your next location, take your time to explore the picturesque town. From historical treasures like The Old Pharmacy where medicines from decades before us stand tall, to uncovering the Military and Memorabilia Museum where a whopping 62,000 items of military and memorabilia made up of donations from over 150 countries are stored, paying tribute to the history, families and dedicated individuals of the armed forces. Let a sense of nostalgia wash over you at Clockwork Curiosities where a trip down memory lane will surely have you reminiscing on days spent twirling Spin Tops and licking lollypops. We recommend taking a walk through their museum where a number of special finds await that date back to the 1940's!

A piece of Gin Gin

After taking a stroll down the heritage main street of Childers, hop in the car and venture across rolling green hills until arriving at the historical town of Gin Gin. Famous for their oh-so flaky pastry pies, taste what this small town has to offer with their mighty flavours! Grab yourself something sweet to treat yourself later in the day (if you can last that long).

Marvel at a mystery

Located just a short drive from Gin Gin is one of Australia’s most baffling phenomenon’s at Mystery Craters. First discovered in 1971 after a farmer began ploughing his field were 35 uniquely shaped craters uncovered. With their origin remaining very much unknown among scientists and estimated to be more that 25 million years old, only one can guess how they came to be. Maybe they are sink holes, or perhaps they are from a time where dinosaurs roamed… join in on the controversy!

Boolboonda Tunnel

With pick-axe markings lining the walls of this 1883 heritage listed tunnel, the Boolboonda Tunnel is truly a sight to behold. Initially built to help transport copper from Mt Perry Mine, this ex-railway tunnel is the longest unsupported man-made tunnel in the Southern Hemisphere.

Sunset at Lake Monduran

Finish your day of adventure with a romantic sunset over Lake Monduran. With plenty of picnic and BBQ areas to choose from, stretch out and relax among the tranquil surrounds. Want to spend more time? Lake Monduran Holiday Park offers cabin and camping facilities along with a range of water activities to hire for some fun on the water the next day.
