Meet Mellywonker and her chocolate coated life

A second generation confectioner who took 38 years to realise her dream of owning her own chocolate shop, Melanice Jacobsen has never looked back. Affectionately nicknamed “Mellywonker” Cha Cha Chocolate truly does feel like walking into Willy Wonka’s whimsical and fantastical confectionery and chocolate factory.

Melanice handcrafts her own fudge in small batches to ensure it’s super fresh and flavours are both inspired by and topped with local ingredients like sweet potato, ginger and macadamia nuts, and believe us you have never tasted fudge like hers! It’s a family secret recipe that has been handed down from her dad and only three people in the world know what goes into it and what makes it so deliciously moreish.

Cha Cha Chocolate is the beating heart of Bourbong St, nestled between boutique and speciality stores that truly make this part of Bundaberg a must-do for shoppers and culinary connoisseurs alike. Aside from Melanice making her own speciality products, there are also an amazing array of locally created produce such as chocolate coated ginger, Lonnie’s Chai blends (local yoga instructor and crafter of delicious, Australian made chai Lonnie Toy), Bundy Limes dried lime wheels, Gin Gin and Dry dried fruit, Water St Granola, honey, jams and macadamia nuts. There are also custom and specialty cookies from local creator Shanni from Cake Sera Sera which sometimes are just too pretty to eat. Melanice also collaborates with local Stampin Up whizz Caz Boylan and you will find her delightful packaging products around seasonal celebrations.

You will find Melanice and nearly her whole family (her second mum Ally, Mum Susan, husband Tim and sister Tara all work in the store and her dad Barry behind the scenes) behind the counter, in the shop and in the back working away like little worker bees creating the most fantastic and delicious chocolate hampers six days a week, and Melanice’s dedication to her craft makes this one of the best chocolate shops in Australia.

Do not miss….the pollywaffle bars, freeze dried strawberries, handcrafted fudge, vintage chocolate cabinet with hand picked specialty chocolates, specialty teas, caramel popcorn, dark chocolate covered ginger, Kokopod and Maleny Chocolate range.

The Details - 84 Bourbong St, Bundaberg. Open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm.
